The entrepreneur must ensure that a qualified person commissioned by him regularly checks ladders and steps for their proper condition and that the result is documented.

In Section 4 of the Industrial Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV) For example, it says: "An employer must only provide its employees with work equipment that is suitable for the workplace and that, when used as intended, ensures safety and health protection." Section 14 of the BetrSichV deals with the inspection of work equipment in greater detail.
According to the German Statutory Accident Insurance (DGUV), an entrepreneur has to ensure that a person authorized and authorized by him regularly checks ladders and steps for proper condition. (DGUV Information 208-016 / BGI 694)

Operational test of ladders and steps
The time intervals for the test depend on the operating conditions.

If the ladders and steps are heavily used, this can mean checking the equipment on a daily basis. The inspection intervals by an authorized person are determined and determined on the basis of a risk assessment in accordance with the Industrial Safety Ordinance.

Examination by a competent person
Irrespective of the tests by an authorized person, ladders and steps must be tested at least every 12 months by a competent person on the basis of the Industrial Safety Ordinance and DGUV Information 208-016. The test results are to be documented and the ladders and steps are to be provided with a test seal.
